The Erprobungsstelle Rechlin, located on the south-eastern shore of Lake Müritz near Rechlin, was the main German department for aeronautical experimentation in the period between 1926 and 1945.
The history of the Rechlin test department began in 1916, with the German army's first plans for an aircraft testing and training institute. Only with the seizure of power by the National Socialists did the Rechlin site become an air force testing department: it was the largest in the Air Force in the Third Reich. The results of the tests and experiments carried out by Rechlin's engineers in the period between 1926 and 1945 had a great influence on aeronautical technology and guided its progress.
