The Hansa-Realschule was founded in 1951 in Soest, as a subtenant in the former grammar school on Hoher Weg. The management of the Municipal Secondary School for Boys and Girls was entrusted to Heinrich Jühe, who was appointed principal on 1 April 1953. In 1962, the planning contract for the construction of the new Hansa-Realschule was awarded by the city of Soest to K. H. Beyerling. The groundbreaking ceremony was held in 1963. After a two-year construction period, the school was able to move into the new building on 15 October 1965. At that time, the pupils were separated from each other according to gender, which is why there is also an eastern and a western part.
