The Church of St. John the Baptist in Neu-Ulm was built as a garrison church in 1857. Today it serves as the Catholic parish church of the parish community of St. John the Baptist in the city center and the district of Schwaighofen.
The church, which was also referred to as a war memorial church in the 1930s, was extended and architecturally transformed into its current form by Dominikus Böhm from 1922 to 1926 and after World War II. A final comprehensive restoration from 1980 to 1985 gave the interior of the church its present appearance. According to experts, St. John the Baptist is considered one of the most significant church buildings of the 20th century in expressionist style worldwide.
