The Triumphal Gate at Mühlenberg is located at the corner of Schopenhauerstraße/Weinbergstraße in the northern part of Potsdam and serves as the entrance portal of the Winzerberg. It was built in 1850/51 under the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm IV and was intended to signify the beginning of a planned but never realized Triumph Street. The designs for the portal were created by architects Friedrich August Stüler and Ludwig Ferdinand Hesse.
The construction of the Triumphal Gate is related to a height road project, a Triumph Street that was to connect existing and planned viewpoints and palace buildings on the northern edge of Sanssouci Park. For financial reasons, only some sections of the project could be realized, including the Orangerieschloss, the Winzerhaus in the Italianate style based on designs by Hesse, and the Triumphal Gate. A temple complex planned on Mühlenberg in memory of Frederick the Great, for which the gate was to form the entrance area, was not executed.
