Groothusen is a village of 474 inhabitants (2006), located in the municipality of Krummhörn, Lower Saxony.
The village of Groothusen is among the oldest villages in the municipality of Krummhörn and has existed since the 8th century. For a long time, the village had access to the sea and developed into a place of local commercial importance. The Osterburg is a castle from the High Middle Ages and is located in East Frisia in the town of Groothusen in the municipality of Krummhörn, in the Aurich district, Lower Saxony, Germany. The castle is situated to the east of Osterburg and is the only one of the three castles that once stood there.
