Arche Noah Zoo Braunschweig

Arche Noah Zoo Braunschweig or Braunschweig Zoo is a zoo in Braunschweig, Germany. The zoo is primarily a private zoo and family business and finances itself entirely from the revenues. The zoo has about 300 animals, divided into 50 species.
In the 1960s, Walter Siebenhaar had a small collection of animals in his shoe shop Kattreppeln. In 1964, Walter Siebenhaar opened his animal collection to the public on a 1.4-hectare area and initially housed domesticated animals. The zoo was named Siebenhaar-Zoo and was mainly intended as a hobby. In 1968, Günter Pietsch took over the zoo and changed its name to Zoologischer Garten Braunschweig-Stöckheim. The number of exotic animals increased and at times there were 500 animals in the zoo. On 4 October 1968, the zoo was also recognised as a cultural institution by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Education.
