Description

The Mützelfeldtwerft Nord is a shipyard in Cuxhaven. It was founded in 1895 by Franz Mützelfeldt and has been a member of the Heinrich Rönner Group since 2013. It primarily builds smaller ships: tugs, floating cranes, fishing vessels, and cargo ships.
A forge on an island in the Priel with an attached carpentry was the seed for today's Mützelfeldtwerft in 1805. On July 28, 1802, ship carpenter Johann Christian Elfers began shipbuilding on the site of today's marina at Schleusenpriel. In 1816, J.J. Dürrels took over the shipyard and rented it for a short time to Taake Jansen. On December 13, 1821, C. Bufe, a ship and barge builder, acquired the yard. By 1854, 18 larger ships were built here, as documented in the ship register. Thus began the rise of the shipyard at the mouth of the Elbe, which gained esteem through various repair works and numerous new construction orders. After the construction of several small vessels, the largest full-rigged ship of its time, the Möwe, was launched there. It was followed by the then largest bark based in Hamburg, Europa; however, its construction financially overwhelmed the shipyard, which had to close on June 20, 1855.
