Train station barracks Minden

The train station barracks is a former barracks in the East Westphalian city of Minden, which was built in 1869 for passing troops in close proximity to the train station of the city of Minden on the right bank of the Weser River. It has been listed as a monument in the city of Minden since 1991.
Minden was expanded into a Prussian fortress from 1827 to 1873. The train station was located on the right bank of the Weser River and thus outside the actual town center. There was enough space to build the train station barracks in 1869. This took place after the Prussian annexation of the Kingdom of Hanover in 1866, which changed the station's function from a border station to an inland station with transfer capabilities. This change also affected the passing troops. The train station barracks could accommodate up to 600 soldiers, which noticeably alleviated the pressure of accommodating soldiers in the fortress of Minden – often at private homes – in the city.
