The Weiner Esch quarry is a former quarry south of the town of Ochtrup, Steinfurt district in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is a registered paleontological monument and a protected geotope due to its fossil finds.
The limestone exposed there is described as sandy and shelly and has a yellow-brown color. In the past, this exposure was named for the Weiner layers, which are now counted as part of the Burgsteinfurt formation. The sediments were formed 84 million years ago in the upper Cretaceous from a rather shallow sea and reach a thickness of 8.5 m here. A part of it is interspersed with rubble. Commonly found fossils include belemnites and mollusks, but the special feature of the Weiner Esch quarry is the quite numerous occurrences of shark and ray teeth. The site has been studied more closely by scientists from the Ruhr Museum in Essen for some time.
