The Emden Rowing Club e. V. was founded in 1906 in Emden to promote the sport of rowing. In addition to recreational and competitive rowing, the club has been active in volleyball since 1972 and in dragon boat racing since 2008. The club is a member of the German Rowing Association.
Even before the club was founded, engineers from Nordseewerke were rowing in a rowing and sailing club. The club was established under the name Emder Ruderverein von 1906 as the first rowing club in the city. For the founding, 20 men met on May 15, 1906, in the Delfthalle. The first chairman was Dr. Conrad Zorn. The club initially owned three boats. In 1907, the club moved into its own boathouse at Doele-Piepen-Tief. In 1912, the ERV joined the German Rowing Association.
