The Elpe, called Walbecke in the upper reaches, is an 18.7 km long, southern and orographic left tributary of the Ruhr in the Hochsauerlandkreis district of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
The Elpe rises as part of its longest source stream, the Walbecke, in the north of the Rothaargebirge within the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge Nature Park. Its source lies about 2 km south-southwest of Walbecke, a district of Schmallenberg, on the common northern flank of Sange in the east and its northwestern spur Kahlenberg in the west at about 719 m above sea level; from the spur, the landscape leads north to the Richterskopf.
