The Tank Artillery Battalion 215 was one of the last two brigade artillery battalions of the Bundeswehr. The battalion was fully stationed, together with the majority of the parent Tank Brigade 21 "Lipperland," at the General Field Marshal Rommel Barracks in Augustdorf, North Rhine-Westphalia. Since December 17, 2012, Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Rommel was the last commander of Tank Artillery Battalion 215. On October 26, 2011, the dissolution of the battalion was announced.
The battalion supports the brigade with artillery fire and reconnaissance and coordinates joint fire at the brigade level in high-intensity operations against predominantly militarily organized opponents or during stabilization operations in the medium and low intensity spectrum. As part of the rapid reaction forces, it is capable of leading an Artillery Task Force. It is organized into four batteries:
