As early as the beginning of the 20th century, the Friedrich Krupp AG company acquired a large mine field property in the area of the Rossenray, Saalhoff and Rheinberg districts in the area of today's urban areas of Kamp-Lintfort and Rheinberg, namely 39 hard coal fields and five rock salt fields with an area of hard coal fields 63.5 km². This mine field property was divided between the Rheinberg field and the Rossenray field. The Rossenray mining union was founded for Rossenray, in whose shares the Friedrich Krupp company owned the majority.
