It is located northwest of today's station, about one kilometer away. The Xanten Archaeological Park is about 500 m to the north.
The first documented mention of the name was in 1386, when the squire Johann Budel from his farm Erprath donated an annual payment to the church in Xanten. The castle was probably built around 1356 by Budel's father, the knight Johann Budel von Dörrenwald. From the beginning it was a Klevish knight's seat, as can be seen from the already mentioned document. The ownership of the house in the 15th century is unclear, but in 1517 it was then in the possession of Johann von Wylich zu Dörrenwald und Vehn. After numerous changes of ownership, Caspar Richard Hundebeck, a regimental commander from the Electorate of Brandenburg, bought the property and had it further expanded. In 1768, Haus Erprath passed by inheritance to the von Haeften family, who also owned the house in the 19th century. During the Second World War, the property, which has since been converted into a baroque manor house, was completely destroyed. The building was rebuilt from the old stones, is preserved and is in private use.
