Sterkrade Abbey is a former Cistercian abbey in Sterkrade, North Rhine-Westphalia, in the Archdiocese of Cologne.
The abbey was founded with the support of the noble families von Hillen and von Holten. In 1240, the abbess of Düssern, Regenvidis von Hillen, received the approval of the Archbishop of Cologne, Konrad von Hochstaden, to found the monastery. Konrad von Hillen, judge of Vest Recklinghausen, a brother of the abbess, bought the estate of Defte from the abbey. The monastery then went into decline. Adolph von Holten moved into it. His heiress Mechthild von Holten gave him back his autonomy. In 1271, the monastery entered the Cistercian Order under the tutelage of Kamp Abbey. In 1280, there were about twenty nuns.
