In February 2010, the facility, formerly known as the Raumerstraße district sports facility, was renamed in honour of Helmut Rahn, who once lived here.
The sports facility, in which the Essen sports clubs SC Phönix Essen, VfB Frohnhausen 1912 and SC Türkiyemspor Essen play, offers a stadium with grass pitch and floodlights for about 8000 spectators, two artificial turf pitches with floodlights, an artificial turf small field, 3 tennis courts, two sports halls and a handball performance centre. The sports facility is complemented by the roller sports arena of the SHC Rockets Essen 1985 club.
