The Fröhliche Morgensonne mine was a hard coal mine in the district of Westenfeld in the Bochum district of Wattenscheid. It was connected with the Centrum mine. Its operation was discontinued in 1963.
In 1874, the first shaft of the mine was sunk, through which the first coal was mined starting in 1878. Already in 1877, the connecting railway to the Wattenscheid-Westenfeld station of the Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft was put into operation, and in 1878 a rail connection to the connecting railway of the Holland mine shaft III/IV was added. In 1882, the mine was expanded with a coking plant, and a year later a ventilation shaft was put into operation. In 1903, a second hoisting shaft was put into operation. The coking plant was closed again in 1920, while the briquette factory, completed in 1894, was only closed during World War II in 1942. The highest annual production during the time as an individual mine was achieved by Fröhliche Morgensonne with 566,866 tons in 1913 with 1,949 employees.
