Christoph 9 is a rescue helicopter operated by the Federal Ministry of the Interior at the Duisburg BG Trauma Clinic in the southern district of Buchholz. The three-member crew flies up to 1,300 missions a year within a radius of 50 kilometres around the air rescue centre in the south of Duisburg, which opened on 16 September 1975. Since a Euregio cooperation in 2003, Christoph 9 has also been alerted to cross-border operations in the Netherlands. In February 2008, a new Eurocopter EC 135 T2i helicopter was put into service, replacing the twelve-year-old BO 105.
