The Elbsee is a quarry pond in Düsseldorf-Unterbach on the city border with Hilden.
After the completion of the gravel excavation works in 2006 and the removal of some dams by the gravel plant, the current lake area is about 89 ha with a maximum depth of 22 m. The lake has no above-ground inflows or outflows and is fed by groundwater. Large parts of the lakeshore are officially not accessible and thus allow for a species-rich flora and fauna. The view of the lake is only allowed from a few places on the surrounding hiking trails.
