LVR Clinic Langenfeld

The LVR Clinic Langenfeld is located in the district of Galkhausen, which belongs to the Reusrath district of Langenfeld. It is a clinic for psychiatry and neurology, and it also includes a forensic psychiatry unit. The sponsor is the Landschaftsverband Rheinland.

In Galkhausen, one of the large LVR clinics in North Rhine-Westphalia is located, where psychiatric and neurological illnesses are treated. The former "Provincial Healing and Care Institution Galkhausen" was essentially established on the grounds of the former Galkhausen estate of the Counts of Mirbach zu Harff. The size of the site allowed for the first time in the history of institutional building the possibility to distribute the buildings loosely across the grounds, which at the time was considered not only progressive but revolutionary. Construction work for the clinic began in April 1897, and the first patients moved in on March 1, 1900. The full program occupancy with 800 beds was achieved after the completion of construction in the autumn of 1904 with the establishment of the last five villas.
