The Großer Busch Tunnel is a 275-meter-long road tunnel of the Federal Motorway 535 in the Wuppertal district of Dornap. The route was designated as Federal Highway 224n until 2008.
Until the tunnel was opened in 1990, the motorway ended at the Wuppertal-Dornap junction coming from the Sonnborner Kreuz. The construction of the tunnel in 1989/90 was carried out using open construction methods, where an open excavation was first created and then backfilled. The two tunnel tubes, which run through the namesake forest area of approximately 26 hectares in Im Großen Busch, each have a width of 12.5 meters. The construction costs amounted to 22 million DM. As part of the tunnel retrofit program of the State Highway Construction Agency NRW, the tunnel is to be upgraded according to the latest safety requirements. Preparations for this began in 2007.
