The Sternstraße is one of the central shopping streets in Bonn's city center. It is part of the pedestrian zone and runs from the market to the Friedensplatz. The street was originally called Pisternenstraße. The initial syllable was lost over time, leading to the name Sternstraße.
At the end of Sternstraße, just before the Friedensplatz, the Kasernenstraße on the right and the Vivatsgasse on the left mark the route of the second city wall from the 13th century, which marked the boundary of the city until the 19th century. Here stood the Sterntor, built around 1244 as part of the city fortifications, which was demolished in 1898, making it the last medieval city gate.
