Gnadenthal Castle is a neoclassical castle complex in the Kleve district of Donsbrüggen, about three kilometers northwest of the town center of Kleve. Located in the nature and landscape protection area of Düffel, the castle complex is a listed building under monument protection.
At the site of the present castle, there was a manor house in the Middle Ages, which was used as a monastery by Augustinian canons in the 15th and 16th centuries and was destroyed during the Eighty Years' War. Johann Moritz von Blaspiel had a baroque castle with garden facilities built on the former monastery grounds at the beginning of the 18th century, which was modified in the style of neoclassicism by the family von Hoevell zu Westerflier at the beginning of the 19th century. During the associated redesign of the castle garden, the sculptures contained therein were removed as they no longer matched the taste of the time. Six of these valuable sculptures were accidentally rediscovered in a pit in the 1950s.
