The Horstbend-Mausbachquelle nature reserve is an area protected since 1992 in the Aachen urban region. With its 4.2 hectares, it is one of the smallest of the currently existing 37 nature reserves belonging to the city of Stolberg.
The nature reserve, which consists of one area, is located in the southeast of Stolberg in direct proximity to the town of Mausbach, with one side of the area bordering on the nearby forest edge. Interestingly, the Mausbach is routed underground immediately after leaving the nature reserve, and the water only reaches the surface again after being discharged into the Vichtbach. Efforts by residents to achieve an above-ground water flow extending beyond the nature reserve have failed for financial reasons.
