The Church of Zarrentin is a Gothic parish church and former monastery church located in the historical town center of Zarrentin am Schaalsee in the district of Ludwigslust-Parchim in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The community belongs to the parish of Parchim in the church district of Mecklenburg of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany.
When Zarrentin was first mentioned in a document in 1194, it was already a German parish village. The Romanesque fieldstone and brick church in the diocese of Ratzeburg served as the village church in the first half of the 13th century. The place and the church were also mentioned together in the Ratzeburg tithe register in 1230. In 1227, Zarrentin came under the Counts of Schwerin. Around 1250, the Zarrentin Monastery was founded as a Cistercian nunnery. The parish church was also - like the one at the Rehna Monastery in Rehna - designated as the monastery church.
