Philippsthal is a street village in the Brandenburg district of Potsdam-Mittelmark. It is now part of the municipality of Nuthetal, which resulted from a voluntary merger of five previously independent localities.
During the reigns of Friedrich I and Friedrich II, the establishment of textile manufacturing was promoted to make Prussia independent from imports. In the course of this, so-called spinning villages were created.
