Pohlesee

The Pohlesee is located in the south of the Berlin district of Steglitz-Zehlendorf in the district of Wannsee. As part of the federal waterway Griebnitz Canal, which legally belongs to the Teltow Canal, it is directly connected on its eastern side to the Kleiner Wannsee and to the west by a canal about 300 meters long to the Stölpchensee. Water predominantly flows from the Teltow Canal over the Stölpchensee into the Pohlesee and from there further to the Kleiner Wannsee towards the Großer Wannsee, but also in the reverse direction. The responsible authority is the Waterways and Shipping Office Berlin.
Before the establishment of the villa colony "Alsen," realized by banker Wilhelm Conrad from 1869 onwards, the Pohlesee together with the Kleiner Wannsee was known as Stolpsches Loch or Stolper Loch - named after the village of Stolpe located to the west. Since this name was not very representative, the lake was renamed and conceptually divided at its narrowest point, formed by the Wehrhorn peninsula. The western section was named Pohlesee, while the northeastern section was named Kleiner Wannsee. There are numerous mooring places for yachts as well as some private properties.
