Tiefwerder refers to a locality and an islet on the Havel River in the Berlin district of Spandau. While the village of Tiefwerder and the neighboring Südhafen Spandau belong to the district of Spandau, the surrounding forest, meadow, and water areas of the islet are part of the district of Wilhelmstadt.
At the Faulen See, an early Slavic settlement existed until the 13th century. The village of Tiefwerder was established in 1815 as a settlement for colonists, when descendants of the Spandau Kietz fishermen were resettled to the islet. A large part of the historic houses along the village street has been preserved and is listed as a protected ensemble of the colonist settlement Tiefwerder. The building at Dorfstraße 5, dating from 1895, is also a protected monument, where the Ballhaus Spandau has been located since the 1920s. The Tiefwerder waterworks from 1914 supplies six Berlin districts with drinking water.
