Tiefwerder Wiesen

The Tiefwerder meadows are a remnant of the ancient floodplain landscape in the plains of the Havel/Spree valley on Berlin's Tiefwerder and in the lowlands of the Pichelswerder River Peninsula in the Wilhelmstadt district of the district of Spandau. The wet meadows are crisscrossed by the dead meandering lakes of the Havel and have been protected as a landscape conservation area since 1960 with an area of 66.7 ha. In the LSG is the Fauler See, which emerged from a meander of the Havel River.
The natural floodplain is the last pike spawning area in Berlin. Due to the drop in the water level of the Havel, the accessibility of the meadows for pike has already deteriorated considerably since 1990. The German transport project Unity 17, the implementation of which would lead to a further drop in the water level, poses an additional threat to the biotope. Endangered species such as bladder sedge grow in Berlin's wet meadows, which are dominated by sedges. The LSG is an important link to the city centre in the Havel Biotope network. The river serves, for example, as a flight guide for bats and as a migration guide for the beaver, which is once again native to Berlin. Since 2007, the Land of Berlin has been considering the extension of the protection status to a nature reserve.
