The Volkspark Wuhlheide is a park facility in the Berlin Wuhlheide, a forest area in the district of Oberschöneweide. Since its establishment in the 1920s to the present day, it has frequently been remodeled or repurposed, sometimes only parts of the large area.
The Volkspark Wuhlheide was created between 1924 and 1932 according to the plans of the then Treptow garden director Ernst Harrich. With the establishment of the Volks- und Waldpark Wuhlheide, the aim was to consider a wide variety of wishes and demands for the use of the urban forest area through the connection of forest and park. The horticultural concept provided for landscape-shaped quiet zones with varying forest scenes for peaceful recreation as well as areas for active recreation. In addition to sports and play fields, children's play and sports areas, a dance floor, a paddling pool, a toboggan hill, and an outdoor swimming pool were also built. Buildings and terraces made of natural stone and rose trellises made the park a popular meeting point for the residents of the nearby districts of Oberschöneweide and Karlshorst. With the merging of intensively used park and nature-oriented forest, the forest park idea that emerged in the context of the "Volkspark movement" of the 1920s was realized. The Volkspark Wuhlheide was one of the three largest forest parks created during this time.
