The Goethepark is a green space in Bernau near Berlin. It is named after the German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
With the construction of the Berlin-Eberswalde railway line of the Berlin-Szczecin Railway in 1842, the city was looking for the shortest connection between the station and the city centre. In 1876, the municipality acquired a suitable area and laid out Victoriastraße there between 1882 and 1892, which runs west of the park. It was renamed Alte Goethestraße during the Weimar Republic. Two years after the acquisition of the street area, an apothecary garden was created in 1878 on the site of today's park. The city acquired it in the 1920s and had the Goethepark with a small pond created there, which still exists today. In the northern part there is a bronze sculpture by Friedrich Schötschel entitled Man with Goat. The commissioned work from 1989 depicts the ambivalent relationship between humans and animals. The city had originally demanded that Schötschel portray a man "who has to keep a goat in order to survive. However, this criticism of the situation of the workers in the 19th century was too boring for him." Other sources report that this is to refer to the couplet of Fredy Sieg. The actor and cabaret artist is known for his lecture Wedding at Zickenschulze from Bernau, among other things.
