The Krossinsee is located on the southeastern border of the city of Berlin, on the plains of Berlin-Fürstenwalder-Spreetal, in a tributary canal of the Dahme, where it is connected to the Zeuthener See by the "Grand Train", on which the village of Ziegenhals is also located. It therefore belongs to the river system of the Dahme. To the northeast, the lake is connected to the Oder-Spree Canal just before the Wernsdorf lock, behind which the Wernsdorfer See joins the canal. It has an area of 163 ha and a maximum depth of 6.2 m. The deepest point is in the eastern zone. The average depth is 2.9 m. Another tributary of the Krossinsee is the Wernsdorfer Luch in the southeast. Its catchment area is about 9.6 km² and about two-thirds of it is used as forest. The south bank of the Krossinsee is populated. The former fishing village of Wernsdorf borders the lake together with the village of Ziegenhals. Due to the connection with Lake Seddinsee and Lake Zeuthen, Lake Krossinsee is a popular recreational area, especially for water sports enthusiasts. It is designated as a federal waterway and can therefore be navigated by motorboats. On the south bank, there are many piers.
The "Wernsdorf" bathing area in Krossinsee is monitored by the district health department with samples every four weeks in accordance with the Brandenburg Bathing Water Ordinance. The microbiological guide and the limit values of the water hygiene tests have always been observed. From time to time, blue-green algae blooms occur and sensitive people should then refrain from swimming.
