Barnim Barracks

The Barnim Barracks is a barracks of the Bundeswehr located in Strausberg. It houses, among other things, the headquarters of the 5th Air Force Division, parts of the Federal Office for Infrastructure, Environmental Protection and Services, a medical supply center, a ZAW care center with up to 160 course participants, as well as other military and civilian agencies and facilities. The property was to be abandoned by the Bundeswehr by 2024. In August 2019, the Federal Ministry of Defense announced that the property would not be abandoned in the context of personnel and material reorientations. The number of course participants at the ZAW care center located here will be increased to up to 300. The sports hall was renovated in 2010, and the sports field in 2011; both facilities are also used by local clubs for civilian purposes.
The Barnim Barracks is designated as a military security area, located within the district of Strausberg-Vorstadt/Eggersdorf, and is one of the largest military barracks facilities in Brandenburg. The property is accessible via the required entrance on the state road L-23, Hennickendorfer Chaussee, or the main entrance L-303. There is a required access point over the pedestrian bridge at the Strausberg train station. Additionally, the barracks has an expanded helicopter landing pad and a fortified protective structure with two floors.
