The Memorial to the Fallen of the Red Army is a memorial created by Ernst Sauer in the town of Senftenberg. It is located on Briesker Straße west of the New Cemetery. It is a listed building. The memorial commemorates the fallen Soviet soldiers of the 1st Ukrainian Front under General Konev, who liberated Senftenberg from 19 to 20 April 1945. In the immediate vicinity of the memorial is the cemetery of honour for the fallen soldiers.
On the 30th anniversary of the liberation, it was decided to redesign the burial place of the soldiers who died in April 1945. The Senftenberg sculptor Ernst Sauer was commissioned. The memorial was inaugurated on May 8, 1975, and was present, among others, by the first commander of the Soviet District Command, retired Guard Colonel Ivan Soldatov. During this redesign, the gravestones of the more than 120 soldiers were removed. In 2015, the monument was renovated and opened on 1 September 2015. During this renovation, plaques with the names of the fallen soldiers were installed in Cyrillic script. In the entrance area, steles provide information about the monument and the events of the war.
