Kossenblatt is located on the L443 in the southwest of Tauche on the southern edge of the Beeskower Plateau. Nearby are the small and large Kossenblatter Lake. Via the waterway, Kossenblatt provides access to Schwielochsee and the Neuendorfer Lake located in the Lower Spreewald.
In the coming centuries, the place name appears in the forms Kozzenblot, Kossinblot, and Cossenblad. There are several theories regarding the naming of the place. While there is no consensus on the meaning of the first part of the name, the derivation of “-blatt” from the Sorbian word błoto for “swamp” is undisputed. Sorbian was still spoken around Kossenblatt until the beginning of the 19th century.
