Sarkow is a residential area in the district of Leißnitz of the independent city of Friedland in the Oder-Spree district. Until its incorporation into Leißnitz in 1939, Sarkow was an independent municipality. In the late Middle Ages and early modern period, Sarkow was a fief of the noble family von Sternberg, based in Bohemia.
Sarkow is located on a rounded peninsula that juts into the Schwielochsee, about 4 km southwest of the core city of Friedland. The district bordered Glowe to the northwest, Leißnitz to the north, and the core city of Friedland to the east. The Schwielochsee, which lies directly to the south, is fully part of the municipality of Schwielochsee. To the east, the Dammmühlenfließ formed the district boundary over a short stretch.
