The Heinersdorfer See is located about 40 kilometers east of Berlin near the B5 in Heinersdorf , a district of the municipality of Steinhöfel in Brandenburg. It is divided by a road embankment into the Kleiner Heinersdorfer See and the Großer Heinersdorfer See. The total area of both lakes is about 80 hectares.
The waters were formed in the Vistula Ice Age and form the remains of a former larger water basin. These are eutrophic lakes with no direct tributary. Geologically, they belong to the main natural unit of the East Brandenburg Plate.
