Polz is the southernmost place in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Until 2004, Polz was an independent municipality and since then has been a district of the town of Dömitz and thus belongs to the Amt Dömitz-Malliß in the district of Ludwigslust-Parchim.
Polz lies on the river Löcknitz. Neighboring villages are Dömitz with its district Klein Schmölen to the west and Breetz to the southeast. Breetz is a village and a former municipality in the municipality of Lenzen, in Brandenburg, Germany. From Klein Schmölen, an inland shifting dune stretches over seven kilometres to the north, parallel to the Löcknitz in an easterly direction. The highest point of the dune is 41 m above sea level near Klein Schmölen. At the eastern end of the dune lies Polz at an altitude of 18 m above sea level. Polz is framed on three sides by extensive pine forests, only to the south is the village bordered by the banks of the Löcknitz and meadows behind it.
