The Rathenow subcamp of the concentration camp was a subcamp of the Sachsenhausen concentration camp from the summer of 1944. In it, men were forced to work for the Arado aircraft factory.
The subcamp, located about 3.5 kilometers south of the city center in the area of the Grünauer Fenn, was established in the summer of 1944. The roughly four-hectare site was secured with a double row of electrically charged barbed wire and five wooden watchtowers. Within the enclosure, there were barracks, in which approximately 500 detainees were present from September 1944, and nearly 800 in February 1945. The detainees were mostly from the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Poland, and the Soviet Union, with a few from Germany.
