Throughwehna is located in the Dübener Heide Nature Park between the towns of Bad Düben and Bad Schmiedeberg on the district road 7401, which connects the village with Söllichau and Kossa. To the northwest, the state road 128 and the railway line Pretzsch–Eilenburg pass by the village, which is no longer served by passenger trains. In the region of Throughwehna, there is the deserted village of Welkwitz.
Throughwehna is a street village in terms of settlement form. The name Throughwehna, which lies in the valley of the Schleifbach, originates from the Slavic word Droga and means valley. Until 1815, the village belonged to the Electoral Saxon district of Düben. Due to the decisions of the Congress of Vienna, it became part of Prussia and was assigned in 1816 to the Bitterfeld district in the Merseburg administrative district of the Province of Saxony, to which it belonged until 1944. During the administrative reform in the GDR in 1952, Throughwehna was assigned to the Eilenburg district, and from 1994 to the Delitzsch district. The village was incorporated into Kossa in 1974. Since 2007, Throughwehna has been a district of the municipality of Laußig.
