Lüben is located four kilometers north of Wittingen. It has 107 inhabitants. The village and its surroundings are predominantly agricultural; in 2018, there were still five active farms.
Lüben was first mentioned in documents in 956 as Liubeme, when Otto I granted six Slavic villages from the Marca Lipani to the Quedlinburg Abbey. The village was built in a circular layout. In 1911, the inn was opened, which has remained in family ownership to this day. It also housed the post office and the first telephone connection of the village. After 1945, Lüben was located about one kilometer from the inner-German border. On March 1, 1974, the municipality of Lüben was incorporated into the city of Wittingen. In 1987, the village received a gold medal in the competition "Our Village Should Become More Beautiful."
