The Breiteiche colony, also known as Breiteiche, belongs to the town of Gardelegen and is located in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel. Breiteiche is located in the Drömling Nature Park, a lowland area.
The Breiteiche colony, like the other surrounding "colonies", consists of isolated farms. In some cases, agriculture is still practiced. The western part belongs to the village of Mieste, Breiteiche I in the east and Breiteiche III in the south belong to the village of Sachau. To the south, the Ohre flows in a west-east direction. Breiteiche I is located in the Ohre-Drömling nature reserve. Larger towns in the area are Mieste four kilometres to the north and the village of Calvörde eight kilometres to the southeast. South of the Ohre, north of the Mittelland Canal, lies the Mannhausen shallow water zone.
