Lunstädt lies on the edge of the Geisel Valley, southeast of Braunsbedra, on the country road between Roßbach and Reichardtswerben. In summer, the Hasse, south of Lunstädt, offers the opportunity to swim with a campsite. The recultivation of an open-cast lignite mining area created a bathing lake with a campsite, volleyball courts and a nudist beach, among other things.
In a register of the tithes of the Hersfeld monastery created between 881 and 899, Lunstädt is mentioned for the first time as a tithe-paying place in Friesenfeld. Like Nahlendorf, the village belonged until 1815 to the Wettin, later Electoral Saxon Amt of Freyburg. By the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna, both places became part of Prussia and in 1816 were assigned to the district of Querfurt in the administrative district of Merseburg in the province of Saxony, to which they belonged until 1944.
