The extended street village lies north of the Quitzdorf reservoir on the Black Schöps, about seven kilometers west of the former district town of Niesky. Northwest of the village is the biosphere reserve Oberlausitzer Heide- und Teichlandschaft, which extends almost to Groß Särchen.
Surrounding localities include Petershain to the north, the church village of See to the northeast, and the city of Niesky to the east, Jänkendorf to the southeast, and Diehsa to the south on the opposite bank of the reservoir, as well as Kollm and Steinölsa to the southwest and Horscha to the northwest.
