Brocken
With an altitude of 1142 meters above sea level, the Brocken is the highest mountain in northern Germany and in the Harz Mountains. The Hochharz nature reserve, of which the Brocken has been part since 1937, is located in the Harz National Park. The Brocken is also known as Blocksberg and is surrounded by many legends. A trip to the top of the Brocken should not be missed in a Harz holiday. The climb up is easy to do and therefore probably very popular with tourists. The village of Schierke is the starting point of a well-known hiking trail to the Brocken. The Goetheweg, which starts from Torfhaus, is also a well-known hiking trail. In addition to a hike, a trip on narrow-gauge train is a nice option to go up the mountain. From Wernigerode, the steam trains depart for the Brocken.
