The Protestant Christuskirche Heidelberg is a church building of historicism in the Heidelberg Weststadt.
In 1890, the construction planning of the Weststadt district began in Heidelberg. Initially, the Protestant church of the Weststadt belonged to the Providenzgemeinde, which still exists today in the Old Town. Around 1894, the family P. J. Landfried provided a plot of land in the middle of the district on which the Protestant Christuskirche was to be built, to spare the Protestant population of Heidelberg from holding services in the gymnasium of the local country house school. The two new Weststadt churches were being built simultaneously, but the Catholic Church of St. Bonifatius could be completed three months earlier than the Christuskirche, whose architect was Hermann Behaghel. The foundation stone was laid on September 24, 1900, the cornerstone was laid on Ascension Day 1901, and the consecration took place on January 3, 1904. To this day, the cornerstone can be found behind the stairs of the pulpit, at the so-called triumphal arch. The distinctive 65 m high tower, the tallest church tower in Heidelberg, along with the towers of St. Bonifatius, shapes the image of the Weststadt.
