The farm belonging to the mill is first mentioned in a written source in 1296. Sold to the Nottuln monastery by Bishop Otto in 1302, it was already inhabited in the late medieval period by the "schulte Steveren." The current mill building also dates back to the late medieval period. Built as a representative residential house, it shows two distinct construction phases. It was not repurposed as a mill until the 16th century. A watermill with two grinding passages "at the Hoff zu Steveren, on the Stever" is first securely documented in 1599. The year 1666, visible on the watermill, only indicates the installation of the lower entrance. Next to the current grain mill, there was an oil mill, the foundation remnants of which can still be recognized. For the grain mill, the "Old Water Rights" document from 1859 proves the existence of two wooden waterwheels with three grinding passages. They were replaced by a Francis turbine in 1928. After milling operations ceased in 1974, the intact mill technology can now, thanks to restoration work, be set in motion again. The transmissions and the transport of grain sacks function as they always have.
