The island of Kälberwerder or simply the Kälberwerder is an island of around 5000 m² in the Havel. It belongs to the Berlin district of Berlin-Wannsee. The owner of the island is the rowing club at Wannsee. The island is located in Berlin's Unterhavel just under 400 meters northeast of Peacock Island. Kälberwerder was bought in 1909 by Albert Thiemt, a member of the rowing club at Wannsee; he first made it available to the club free of charge and bequeathed it to the rowing club at Wannsee in 1926. In honor of the two Olympic champions, an oak tree was planted on the island and bronze plaques were erected.
Kälberwerder – including the immediately surrounding lake area – initially belonged to the former rural community of Cladow and from 1920 to the Berlin district of Kladow. From 1938 it belonged to the then district of Zehlendorf and since 2001 to the district of Steglitz-Zehlendorf.
