The Catholic School Center Bernhardinum in Fürstenwalde/Spree is currently the oldest Catholic school center in the state of Brandenburg. The school consists of a high school, a secondary school, and an elementary school.
On March 23, 1991, the Bishop of Berlin, Cardinal Sterzinsky, gave his consent to the founding of a Catholic school in Fürstenwalde/Spree. In August 1991, the Bernhardinum School Center was established on the site of the former Polytechnic Secondary School Otto Ulinski Fürstenwalde and inaugurated with a high school. Since its founding, the Bernhardinum has been the only private high school in Fürstenwalde. In 1993, the school center was expanded to include an elementary school. An external location was opened in the town of Petershagen. In 1995, the high school was recognized as a private school in Brandenburg.
