The Brandenburg-Altstadt railway station is a station in the city of Brandenburg an der Havel. It is located as a formerly important traffic stop on the current railway line Brandenburg–Rathenow of the former Brandenburg city railway. As a significant freight station, several branch lines lead from it to industrial areas and port facilities in the city. From the first decade until the middle of the 20th century, it also served as the terminus of a line of the West Havelland County Railways.
The Altstadt station was connected to the German railway network in 1904. The Brandenburg City Railway AG, founded in 1901, opened traffic on the Treuenbrietzen–Belzig–Brandenburg–Rathenow–Neustadt line, the Brandenburg City Railway, on March 25, 1904. The Altstadt station became one of the most important stops on this line. It was the largest passenger and freight station in the city on this connection. As a transfer station, it gained significance when, just half a year after the opening of the city railway, the West Havelland County Railways were connected. From the Altstadt station, the line led to Brandenburg–Brielow–Radewege–Butzow–Ketzür–Weseram–Roskow with a connection to Nauen. The city railway received a connection to the state railway at the station of Brandenburg Neustadt, located directly next to the state railway station, which is now part of the main station in Brandenburg.
